Meet the Starfish

We live and dream the web – and how to make it work for you.

After nearly seven years at a large web development company, David Ridgway and Kay Smoljak knew where their talents, expertise and passions lay – in web development, software design and internet marketing.

With so many businesses in desperate need of smart web specialists, they decided to strike out on their own, and in 2006, the Clever Starfish were born.

Industry Involvement

We love to get out and mix with our peers — and we’re lucky that Perth has a very strong web development community.

Clever Starfish is a business member of AWIA, the Australian Web Industry Association, and Starfish Kay sat on the committee from 2004−−2009, and helped organise the Edge of the Web conference in 2008 and 2009. We’re also involved in the ColdFusion User Group of Western Australia.

Awards

While the most important thing is that our clients — and their customers — are happy with their new sites and the way they perform, recognition from our peers is also very satisfying.

At the 2007 WA Web Awards, Clever Starfish won Best Small Business web site for kendrake.com. The Perth International Arts Festival site, which was a finalist in the 2007 WA Web Awards, was also a finalist in the 11th Annual Webby Awards (an international competition). We had three finalists in the WA Web Awards in 2008.

In 2009 the WA Web Awards went national. We were thrilled to pick up Best Retail site with the Sophie Kyron Jewellery site.
